ACTMC actively engages with government at local and national levels to shape policies that affect our communities. We lobby for stronger anti-discrimination measures, improved language access, religious freedom, gender equality, and other initiatives that promote fairness and inclusion.
We conduct and commission research to better understand the experiences, challenges, and aspirations of our communities. This evidence base directly informs our advocacy, programs, and policy recommendations.
ACTMC’s leadership and staff reflect the rich diversity of the communities we represent. Our board includes representatives from a wide range of ethnic, linguistic, religious, and gender backgrounds to ensure authentic and balanced voices in decision-making.
We deliver targeted resources and services to meet the unique needs of our communities. This includes settlement support for new migrants, language classes, cultural preservation programs, and specialised support groups.
ACTMC works to increase understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity by educating the wider public, challenging stereotypes, and fostering greater intercultural dialogue and respect.
We actively partner with government agencies, non-government organisations, academic institutions, and other community groups to maximise impact and create lasting positive change.
ACT Multicultural Council acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of the ACT and recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region. We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
